Our Purpose:
To offer distinctively Christian care to all those in the church experiencing troubling or significant events in their lives and to help them encounter Christ's love in practical ways.
To help such individuals see this church as a place where they are valued, supported and encouraged, and where their spiritual and emotional needs are met.
Our Objectives:
- To provide practical care for the needy, visitation and encouragement for
the homebound, comfort to those who are in crisis, and recognition in times
of special celebration.
- To offer care and communication to the people of Immanuel through an
organized network of support.
- To complement the other major Church approaches to congregational care
that make up the continuum, including Pastoral, and Stephen Ministry care.
What do we do?
- Maintain an up-to-date list of the homebound, coordinate ongoing, regular
visitation, and send out the quarterly Care Mail (a newsletter
specially prepared for the homebound).
- Arrange to have sermons and Sunday bulletins mailed, or emailed and/or
audiotapes of the service taken to the homebound.
- Offer communion to the homebound and make arrangements with the
Congregational Care Committee Deacon when communion is requested.
- Organize delivery of plants or gifts at Christmas and Easter for the
homebound.
- In cooperation with the Equipping Commission, arrange for visitation
training.
- For bereavement care, deliver a practical gesture of sympathy, such as a
fruit basket and sympathy card.
- Organize the mailing of cards to congregants for special events in their
lives, or in times of crisis.
- Send congratulations cards for such events as special birthdays, special
achievements, new births, and get well cards for those who are ill.
- Oversee the help for the needy at Christmas time.
- Coordinate the Congregational Care Network (an organizational framework in
which everyone is connected to each other for care and efficient
communication) and be responsible for its regular updating.
- Administer the Immanuel Prayer Line and
ensure that the names are listed weekly in the church bulletin.
- Oversee the organization of name tags for use at church worship services.
- Promote regular awareness with the congregation about the various ways
care is provided (e.g., giving Care Announcements on one Sunday a month, or
in Sunday bulletins).
